The Densetsu Beta PDF is Here!

Hi everyone,
First off, apologies for the three-day delay. Dom had a few final bits he wanted to tidy up before we shared this with you, but we all agreed it was worth the extra couple of days. This has been Dom the past week:
The Beta PDF is Ready
It's finally here!
I say beta because there are still a few finishing touches before we call it the final version, but the book is now in a place where we're really excited to get it into your hands.
One of the biggest things still to add is the Playtester Credits.
We'll be putting out a call over on the Discord shortly asking everyone who contributed feedback how they'd like to be credited in the book. If you'd like your name in Densetsu, make sure to hop in and let us know exactly how you'd like it to appear.
We're also waiting on the final versions of the Classes. Our good friend Totti–––who worked on the Berserkr class artwork–––has stepped in to give them another pass, so we're looking forward to getting those integrated soon. We're also working on the index and front/end papers.
Keep the Feedback Coming
As always, you lot somehow manage to spot things that both we and our editor completely miss. If you notice any spelling mistakes, grammar issues, awkward wording, or anything else that stands out while you're reading, please let us know.
Production Timeline
We're still on track to have the final versions of all the digital products ready by the end of this month. Once those are complete, we'll move fully into manufacturing.
Our current estimate is for shipments to leave China towards the end of September.
After that... well, it's largely in the hands of the shipping gods. Between global freight, the Strait of Hormuz, and everything else that can affect international logistics, there are always a few variables outside our control.
As always, we'll keep you updated every step of the way.
Thanks again for all your support, your feedback, and your patience. Enjoy the book and see you in the next update.

Hi everyone,
First off, apologies for the slight delay on this month's update. We were over at UK Games Expo, and it turned out to be an incredibly busy few days.
We're back to the grind now, but it was fantastic to meet so many of you in person. We had some excellent meetings, met a lot of great people, and came away with plenty of exciting ideas for the future.
Now, onto the meat of the update.
Starter Set Progress
The Starter Set is now complete from a writing and editing perspective.
Matt has just wrapped up work on the Spring section, and layout is continuing at a great pace. We've attached a couple of preview images below so you can see how everything is coming together.
Production Timeline
The Densetsu book is rapidly approaching the finish line, and we're currently planning for the digital PDF to land at the end of this month.
After that, we're aiming for:
-
The Book of Yō Digital PDF – End of July
-
Starter Set Digital PDF – End of July
Alongside the books themselves, we'll be tying up all the additional components such as reference cards, coins, banners, and other physical extras.
Everything remains on track for manufacturing to begin at the end of summer.
Night Shift: Devil Division
In the last update, I mentioned that we'd launched a new project on BackerKit called Night Shift: Devil Division. Well, with just three days remaining, we've just crossed £200,000, making it the biggest project we've ever launched.
If you'd like to take a look before the campaign ends, you can find it here
And before anyone asks, this is probably the last time I'll mention it in these updates. I know you're here for Densetsu, and that's exactly what these monthly updates should be focused on.
Thank You
As always, thank you for your patience and support. It's genuinely exciting to see these books getting so close to completion, and we're looking forward to getting the PDFs into your hands very soon.
See you in the next update.

Starter Set Playtesting Almost Done + A New Project

Hey everyone,
We’ve got one more session of playtesting left on the Starter Set.
It’s been an absolute blast so far, and I’ll say this with a bit of arrogance… my character has somehow survived all four seasons. Just the final boss left, so we’ll see how that goes.
We’re implementing a few small tweaks and refinements based on what we’ve learned, but nothing major. Jack, who is leading the project, is aiming to have those edits wrapped up in the next couple of weeks. Once that’s done, we’ll release a text-only version for you all to check out.
Everything is still mostly on schedule, and progress is coming along nicely across the board. The Densetsu PDF is getting close now, which is always a good feeling.
A Quick Note on What’s Next
I want to quickly mention something new we’ve been working on.
We’re launching our next game, Night Shift: Devil Division, next Tuesday at 10am PST / 5pm GMT on BackerKit.
It’s a modern anime-inspired TTRPG with strong 90s anime energy, built on the Draw Steel engine, and it’s shaping up to be one of our biggest launches so far.
If you like what we do and want to support it, we’d really appreciate a follow on the pre-launch page.
That said, I’ll be honest, I always feel a bit strange promoting a new project before the current one is fully delivered. So there’s no expectation at all here. If you just want to keep your focus on Densetsu and maybe check it out later, that’s completely fair.
We just want to keep making cool stuff, and whether that’s through follows, feedback, or just keeping an eye on what we’re doing, it all helps.
Thanks again for sticking with us.

BackerKit Tech Issue & A New Date for Charges
5 months ago
– Thu, Mar 12, 2026 at 07:08:58 AM
Hey folks
We’ve been doing a bit of behind-the-scenes wrestling with some digital spirits over at BackerKit this past week. As we mentioned, we’ve been working to set up a new BackerKit feature to ensure we handle your orders exactly the way we promised.
Because we’re using a new system to split your item charges from your shipping charges, BackerKit hit a few technical hiccups that required some manual "fiddling" from the BackerKit team. We wanted to make sure everything was 100% perfect before hitting the "go" button, which is why the charges didn't process last week as originally planned.
We are now all set to go!
The New Charge Date
We will now be locking carts and charging for Pre-Orders and Add-Ons on:
Friday, March 13th at 5:00 PM GMT
(Yes, Friday the 13th—also my birthday if anyone cares haha 🥳)
After charges have gone through for pre-orders, we'll send over any relevant PDFs for the Core Rulebook and Zines from the old projects.
Where did the Shipping Fees go?
If you log into your survey now, you might notice that the shipping and VAT charges have done a vanishing act. Don't panic! As part of this new technical setup, we have officially deferred those costs. The estimates have not changed, and the prices will remain the same as what you saw previously—they are simply "hidden" for now so that we only charge you for your physical items and add-ons this week. We will "unhide" and charge for shipping and VAT much closer to fulfilment once the books are ready to ship.
A Glimpse into the Book
To make up for the dry technical talk, we wanted to share some of the progress we’ve been making on the layout of the Densetsu book.
Thank you all for being so patient while we ironed out the technical side of things. We’re back on track and moving full steam ahead!
Cheers,
Sacha & the Slightly Reckless Back End Fiddlers
